Welcome Home Obi! We need your comments!

The little pup we talked about last week from a shelter down south arrived to his forever home in Connecticut last night. Jill and Nick are so excited to welcome "Obi" to their home and hearts.
I talk a lot on this blog so I am turning the page over to you folks today! Please leave a comment here for Jill and Nick on your best new puppy/rescue/first time Dogmom and DogDad tips! Lets hear what advice or comments you have to share.

  1. Welcome home Obi!
Jill & Nick...as dog parents remember that dogs are "stylin" people too & deserve beautiful attire!

  2. Jill & Nick,
Congratulations on your new furbaby! My advice - don't let him sleep with you in your bed...ever! I spent last night wedged between a 70lb setter on my legs and a 90 lb golden on my arm (my husband was in there somewhere too)! I've never slept worse in my life, but I wouldn't change it for a thing. Dogs teach you to have a good sense a humour - I mean how can you not when you are covered in slobber and dog hair?! Take an obedience class with Obi and learn to really communicate with him. If he gets lonely consider fostering for a local rescue group. I've had 13 fosters over the past few years and it's the next best thing after having your own dog.

  3. Congrats Jill and Nick!
There's no feeling like a new puppy in your home. My best advice is to take TONS of pictures of Obi now! We didn't take enough of Mixie when we first got her because I thought I had enough time... but, of course, she grew into a big girl SO fast. We really cherish those precious few puppy pics we did take, but wish we had more.
And don't let him sleep in the bed. HAHAHA... good luck with that one!
    All our best,
    Katie, Kyle, and Mixie

You have done a wonderful thing and will be rewarded daily by your little bundle of fur-joy. :) Have FUN!

  5. I hope we're not too late to comment! Best advice, be consistent! A couple of my favorite books: The Art of Raising a Puppy by Monks of New Skete and The Loved Dog by Tamar Gellar. I used both in training Nola and well, I think she's perfect! ;) Obi is SO cute! I hope Miss Fiona will post some updated pictures as he grows! Also, nylabones and kongs will become your best friend...and his! Kong.com has recipes to give you ideas on stuffing them and Nylabone has a newsletter they send once/month with a $2 coupon. Oh! And Walmart's nylabone prices are about half of Petsmart's prices. One other thing, Fresh and Clean makes a terrific shampoo that really does make your dog smell good for a long time! Good luck and welcome Obi! :) Ginger and Nola (21 month ridgeback mix)
